To begin with, more than anything else, you have to have the right ‘mindset’ to succeed in anything you do. Think about it – could you accomplish very much if your only feeling about starting something was that you would fail? Would it help very much to constantly enumerate the reasons why you are skeptical? No it wouldn’t. It would discourage you and as time goes by, it will stop you from doing what you need to do.
Sure there are obstacles and trials and tribulations with anything in life. The trick is to fearlessly carry on and push forward no matter what they are – move around them, go through them, ignore them; However you want to look at it, you can’t let anything stop you if you are determined to succeed. How do you control this? With your thoughts, because if you quit or allow yourself to fail, it is ultimately not circumstances but your thoughts that will defeat you.
It is actually quite normal to ‘wonder’ if you can overcame this or that issue and some who may have failed in the past or seen or heard of others that didn’t make it, may feel skeptical about their chances. It is very important therefore to keep an open mind. Every person is different and every situation is different. Because someone else failed does not mean you will.
If you are trying something new – something entirely different than anything you have done before, it is very important that you control your thoughts from the get-go because negativity will encumber you at every turn. For example when you first start to create a home business online, you will be inundated with offers, emails, concepts, theories, opinions, etc. If you say to yourself, ‘I just can’t handle this information overload, get me out of here’ you are saying that you are not motivated or determined enough to accomplish what you want, and you would rather just quit than deal with the atmosphere.
For another example, what if you realize you just don’t know what people are talking about and you have never done marketing or sales before, or used your computer to do anything but email? How can you possibly handle this at all? The answer is you can learn; and maybe you can see how these thoughts are going to conquer you if you don’t control them.
There are very successful people in the world and sometimes you wonder what it is about them that makes them that way while others just can’t get a grip. It is positivity. They have a way of taking every negative situation, comment, or thought and turning it in to something positive that they can work with. For example see the difference: We have problems A,B & C and they are really stressful issues with no apparent solution right now and I just don’t know which way to turn. (throws up hands and walks away shaking head); Versus: We will find out what we need to do and we will do it. We will find a way, no doubt about it. (moving right along)
One good way not to become overwhelmed is to look at the details and separate them from each other into chunks. Take one chunk at a time. Don’t worry about the other chunks, only the one that you are working on. Do what you can, take notes about what you can’t, put it away and move on to the next chunk. If you look at it as small issues rather than one big maze, you won’t be consumed by the enormity of your undertaking.
Whatever you do, don’t listen to naysayers – they will just bring you down. If someone has something very logical (unemotional) to share with you, listen and take it into consideration – even look for possible ways to disprove or prove their theory so that you can dispel it from your consciousness. If the situation is reversed, then be affirmative – be supportive, wish the person well in their endeavors. Let them find out what they need to know for themselves.
